The aircon of your car is one of its important features that make your ride comfortable by maintaining its internal temperature but it can get damaged and worn out with time and due to regular usage. You will have to decide for aircon repairs or replacement if it is not providing you the required temperature in the car. Though it is not easy to decide in this regard still you can base your decision on some warning signs briefly discussed here under.
The dashboard is leaking: If you see water stains on the mat then it can be a clear indication that the hose of your car AC is clogged and it not sipping out the water which is leaking from your dashboard. It can be due to excessive moisture or aging of the aircon. You should get it repaired as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
Improper airflow: If the flow of air coming out of your car aircon is weak then there can be some obstacle in its way to reach air vent. It can be due to lose hose of the blower, accumulation of mildew or mold in evaporator core, opened seals in blower hose or evaporator core case. They can be repaired to resume adequate airflow.
The leak in refrigerant: The cooling in your car can be affected by a leak in the refrigerant of your car aircon. The hoses or rubber seal of the aircon can allow the refrigerant to leak after losing their elasticity. You will have to replace these seals or hose to resume proper cooling in your car.
Loss of cooling: Your car aircon can lose cooling due to clogged refrigerant charging hose or expansion tube, broken blower, broken compressor, damaged evaporator or condenser, failure of switch or fuse or lack of refrigerant. All these signs can be amended by aircon repairs or replacement according to the nature of the fault.
Strange noise: If your car AC is creating weird rattling sounds then it can be due to breaking of the belt of its condenser or fan. The accumulation of debris on its fan can also cause unusual noise. So instead of ignoring this noise, you should get the fan or condenser belt replaced and fan serviced as soon as possible.
Aircon suddenly stops cooling: It can be due to some blockage in the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. This blockage can be in the expansion valve which can also prevent the compressor to maintain the required amount of pressure by damaging its clutch. It can also be due to leaks or blown of the fuse. So you should get your aircon serviced immediately to avoid further damage to it.
Improper movement of Compressor Clutch: There must be some problem in the compressor of your car AC if its clutch stops moving as it allows the compressor to turn when required. The clutch of the compressor stops moving either due to breakage or seizure. In the first case, your compressor will not get power from the engine and in the latter case, the compressor will remain active permanently. In such a case you will have to replace the compressor or its clutch entirely.
Emission of nasty odors: If the air filter of your car AC is worn out or get dirty then it may start emitting odors like that of sweaty cloth. This problem can be avoided by replacing or cleaning the air filter regularly otherwise it can damage the entire air conditioning system of your car. It can also affect the consumption of fuel in your car.
Leakage of oil: The oil of your car AC compressor will leak if there is some problem in its compressor, evaporator, line, fittings or condenser. This leakage can affect the proper functioning of the entire unit as well as the production of cold air. Though you cannot see this leakage of condenser oil but it can suddenly stop the production of cool air from your car AC. In such condition, car aircon repairs can solve the problem easily.
Emission of burning odor: You can experience burning odor coming out of your car AC if the wiring of its compressor is overheated or burnt. The air conditioning unit of your vehicle will not work properly with damaged wiring of its compressor. This problem can be fixed by replacing or repairing the wiring as soon as possible.
